Art is, in all circumstances, inclusive

Hampstead School of Art (HSoA) was founded by its mother organisation Hampstead Artists Council (HAC) in 1946 as a Community Art Education Charity, with the patronage of Henry Moore, directed by Jeannette Jackson, Bernard Gay and the collaboration of many other local artists. It has since provided a centre of artistic excellence to the whole community, offering tuition in a wide range of skills by practising artists, in an historic and beautiful part of London, close to Hampstead Heath. We are proud to enable students of every age and background to receive professional tuition from practising artists with 1000 learning places available every week.

Centre for wellbeing

The therapeutic power of creativity

Our teaching artists create an environment in which students feel free to experiment and produce remarkable results, irrespective of their background, level of artistic ability or age. We embrace diversity as a strength and our students include many with differences of all types, all of whom are nurtured within the caring atmosphere of the school.

Reaching out

Our outreach work is part of the school's historical DNA.

Not everyone is able to come to the school so our popular outreach programme provides art learning and development for those who can't, and these art groups have become essential to many in our community.

Hampstead School of Art and U3A London (University of the Third Age London) is an exciting partnership between two organisations whose mission is to serve people by creating high quality learning opportunities and widen participation through our Drawn Together programme. Starting with Covent Garden Outreach project, ‘Drawn Together’ has grown so substantially and we now have groups in Belsize Park, Aspern Grove Community Centre.

Community events & celebrations

A key part of the HSoA outreach programme is our participation in local events. Together, we work to reach out to everyone in our community, regardless of age, background or situation.
