Tony Wigg BA Fine Art, explored painting film and performance art in the Fourth Dimention department at the Hornsey College of Art in Middlesex Polytechnic in the mid 1970’s. His tutors were kinetic artist Dante Leonelli and performance artist Marc Camille Chaimowicz. Developing the relationship between Fine Art and Textiles Tony went on to pioneer Silk Painting in art education as a regular course as a way to bring textiles and painting together, craft and fine art.
Over the years and especially at the Hampstead School of Art Tony has introduced many students to Silk Painting and more recently Creative Drawing adjunct to his own work in mixed media. His experiences with drawing and painting on silk has been the theme of an award winning film “On Silk” by film maker Michael Slowe.
More Recently in 2017 The Hampstead School of Art staged an exhibition of recent works by Tony Wigg in mixed media “Makes Visible which can be seen on the school website Gallery, a copy of the catalogue is also available online and through the HSoA.
