Painting Local Landscapes with the Camden Town Artists

Painting Local Landscapes with the Camden Town Artists

The Camden town group was a group of north London artists who in the early decades of the 20thC were at the forefront of new painting. Their subject matter was the everyday world that is easily overlooked yet so full of picture-making possibilities.

They inspired the newly heightened colour pallete of post-Impressionism on the continent and by the possibilities offered by photography for recording and framing views of city and suburb.

During the first day of the course we will draw and photograph different locations within walking distance of The Chapel Studio HSoA Campus, located at Hampstead Cemetery, Fortune Green Road (free parking available-please book through the art school office)

With tutor support, you will develop one or more paintings based on your personal visual information. We will also look at the work of various Camden town painters including Walter Sickert and Harold Gilman through slides, to see how they can help with realising your own ‘Local Landscapes’.

A three day painting and drawing course.
