Sketching into Painting - Borough Market

This intense three-day-workshop, will focus on gathering information and creating preparatory studies from the Market which will inform and underpin a final outcome to be completed in the art school's studios.
The workshop is suitable for all levels of ability.

Days 1 and 2
will be spent responding to the Market's unique, vibrant environment, which offers a myriad of pictorial possibilities. You may work in any media , and adopt either an abstract or figurative approach.
Meet each day at 10.00 am at the Monmouth Coffee Company located at 2 Park St SE1 9AB.
(It is situated right next to the market.)

Day 3
(Sat 31 July) will be based at the art school's studios, where you will be encouraged to synthesise and develop your preparatory studies into a resolved, formalised composition.
You may work on any surface including canvas (please source beforehand).
Each working day will conclude with a plenary session.

Materials:

Days 1 & 2
Drawing/ sketching/ painting media of your choice.
A sketching stool
sketchbooks ( max A2 )
and a packed lunch ( although there are many eating options within the Market itself.)

Day 3
A support of your choice ie- canvas, board, or paper.
Drawing/ painting media of your choice.

Mick Kirkbride

Painter and teacher Mick Kirkbride is a graduate of the Royal Academy Schools (1992-1995). He was Senior Lecturer in Visual Studies at the London College of Fashion, University of the Arts from 1996 to 2011. In 2004 he was elected a member of The New English Art Club, becoming the Curator of its education programme in 2014 teaching a range of drawing classes at both The Mall Galleries Learning Centre and Heatherley’s School of Art. Mick has taught drawing and painting at all levels including postgraduate. For the past four years he has led a series of life-drawing classes and specialist workshops for the Royal Academy of Arts’ Academic Programme.
