Yr 9+ Atelier Style Portrait Workshop

A great supplementary course for GCSE students.

In this course the students will be introduced to an atelier approach to painting a portrait that utilises the sight-size method. With a limited palette of oil colours the students will learn how to paint a timeless portrait following an academic, step-by-step method, where the emphasis will be on approaching the portrait with a ‘general to specific’ mindset both in the initial stages of construction and in the ‘blocking in’ of colour values in order to achieve the most effective visual impression. The aim of this course is to equip the students with a clear method and a set of solid principles which can be applied to any project they set out to undertake in their future practice.

I will guide the students through the course by setting out clear learning objectives for each session, giving short demonstrations on how to progress in each part of the process and also giving personalised critiques catered to the students needs.
