What is the atelier course?
Using the structure of the private ateliers and academies of the 19th century, we aim to give students the technical grounding and understanding to approach any problem with confidence.
Alongside constant life drawing students progress through casts to a live portrait, and then more expansive and substantial poses, with the introduction to paint only once a level of drawings is reached. Each step adding new elements to be incorporated into one's repertoire.
Jack is a traditionally trained artist studying first at the Arts University Bournemouth and then moving to Florence to study under internationally renowned painter and teacher Charles H Cecil, where he ended up teaching at Charles H Cecil Studios, as a visiting tutor before returning back to London in 2017. Since returning Jack has worked as an artist in his studio in London, and has continued teaching as a visiting tutor at Atelier Tremlett in Lewes and returning to Florence to teach at points throughout the year.
Looking for a creative escape or want to build on your skills as an artist?
Our weekly daytime and evening classes give you the headspace, and the studio space, to develop your work over a 12 week term.
This is a one year experimental learning course leading to our own certificate, independently moderated to meet national standard. Typically our students apply for undergraduate and postgraduate courses or continue onto our Advance Practice Course. Weekly constructive critiques ensure the continuing progress and direction of individual work, while gallery and artists studio visits support students writing on the cultural context of their developing work. Application is by portfolio interview with the Principal.
