“Ancient Themes” by Tom Glynn

"I am delighted to be exhibiting this series of works by Tom Glynn at HSoA Gallery.
Presenting us with both paintings and sculptures, Glynn is responding to the landscape and ancient artefacts that he finds in the landscape.
His sculptures seem to bring historical contemplation to life.
By combining found elements with his understanding of the world around him - like Hockney, the British landscape predominates many of his paintings; and like Max Ernst - he utilises textures and found objects, which somehow seem connected to the subject.
These inclusions are cunningly in keeping with the subjects they express. This is the magic of selected materiality!
The narratives can be ambiguous, endlessly engaging, perhaps accessing our primal emotions with their curious creativity and making us look closer.
There is no conflict between the works, as Glynn makes material rhythms with his choices through both painting and sculptural practice. The fluidity between both, is the basis of his creativity, kindly offering us a very enjoyable and very satisfying immersion into his thinking."
- Isabel H Langtry, HSoA Principal

Review by Dr James Fox: British Art Historian & Broadcaster

“Tom Glynn is one of the most inventive British artists working today. Moving effortlessly between artforms, materials and techniques, he makes beautiful, playful and sophisticated images, infused with a deeply-felt love of the world around him.”
- James Fox
