Dominic Blake has been Life Modelling at HSoA for many years. His experience as a Life Model has seen him work with Royal Academicians and notable painters, along with thousands of students who have attended Life Drawing and Portraiture classes across London and beyond.
For his most recent research he has been asking the question Are Life Models Artists? Spoiler alert...he thinks they are. Alongside talking to fellow Life Models and Artists his research has involved discussions with several directors of museums, galleries and private collections including Christopher Le Brun (President of Royal Academy), Simon Martin (Director of Pallant House Gallery), Lara Wardle (Director Curator of The Jerwood Collection) and Jo Baring (Director of The Ingram Collection).
This Autumn he will be delivering a lecture at HSoA giving insight into his research. The lecture has already been delivered to sell out audiences at the Mall Galleries and will continue onto other institutions in London, Paris and New York.
He has also recently appeared on BBC Radio and in the Guardian discussing Life Modelling.
