A skills-based class tailored for participants who wish to advance their jewellery-making skills further, leading to highly advanced practice. Makers may use base metals, such as copper and brass, silver and gold, gems such as pearls and other precious elements, when wished. Close attention and awareness must be paid to the health and safety aspects of this skilled practice, acids, saw blades, specialist machines, and soldering/welding will be used. During the course a range of techniques such as shaping, forming, and soldering/welding will be taught. Particular emphasis is given not only to the practical advanced skills of jewellery making but also to the design and wearability of finished items. Many participants craft at professional levels selling their own pieces on the design circuit. Students purchase their own materials, specialist studio tables are provided, and access to certain equipment.
