Floral Scarf by student in Silk Painting Class

Jewellery

Jewellery

A skills-based class tailored for participants who wish to push their jewellery-making skills further, leading to highly advanced practice. Makers may use base metals, such as copper and brass, silver and gold, gems and other precious elements, when wished. During the course a range of techniques including shaping, forming, and soldering / welding will be taught.

Close attention and awareness must be paid to the health and safety aspects of this skilled practice, as acids, saw blades, specialist machines, and soldering/welding will be used.

Particular emphasis is given not only to the advanced practical skills of jewellery making but also to the design and wearability of the finished items.
Many participants craft at professional levels, selling their own pieces on the design circuit. Students purchase their own materials, will be working on specialist studio tables, and will have access to certain equipment.
