Jewellery - Granulation Workshop

Make a Silver pendant or a pair of earrings using the technique of granulation

Level - Some basic level of jewellery making is required.

Granulation (from Latin: granum = “grain”) is a goldsmith’s technique whereby the surface of a jewel is decorated with small spheres of precious metal, named granules and fused or soldered onto a piece in a prearranged pattern or design.

This two day course will introduce students to the art of granulation originally executed in 2500BC and later developed by Etruria in the 8th Century BC. We will look at examples ancient and modern and design a pendant or pair of earrings in fine and sterling silver using the soldering method of granulation.

The course includes all basic materials and equipment. £40 to cover the cost of the silver included.
